Chennai student killed in accident

NAMAKKAL: A 13-year-old student from Chennai, one of the participants in the state-level fencing competitions, which began on the premises of a private college here on Saturday, was killed when the sword of his opponent pierced into one of his eyes during a practice game.

The police said Baburaj was fighting in the practice game with his schoolmate on Saturday evening, when the incident took place. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital.

Later, he was referred to the Salem Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment. But he died on way to the hospital. The police registered a case. The organisers cancelled the competitions.
