For the farmers: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda addressing a rally at Gohana in Sonepat district on Sunday.

GOHANA: In yet another pro-farmer initiative, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday announced to give an additional amount of Rs. 10,000 per acre for 33 years to those whose land has been acquired by either the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation or the Haryana Urban Development Authority after March 5, 2005.

Addressing a well-attended rally here, Mr.Hooda clarified that this incentive would be in addition to the normal compensation paid for land acquisition. Buoyed by the enthusiastic response from the crowd, Mr. Hooda asserted that Haryana was paying the highest compensation for land acquisition and the latest policy decision was worth being emulated by other Chief Ministers.

He announced that in case of acquisition of land in a village for industrial purposes, 25 per cent jobs would be reserved for those farmers and landless workers who were dependent on agriculture.

He asserted that all families in the State would get employment opportunities as his Government was implementing innovative schemes.

He stated that the Government would give two CFL bulbs free of cost to each of the families living below the poverty line in both urban and rural areas. In a landmark decision, the Government had decided to waive off surcharge of those domestic consumers in urban areas who paid their electricity bills. A “safai karamchari” would be appointed for every 2,000 population at a monthly salary of Rs.3,500 in rural areas to ensure sanitation.

Striking a political note and hitting out at his political rivals, including former Chief Ministers, Mr.Hooda claimed that his regime had paid Rs. 225 crore as compensation to those whose land has been acquired.

He alleged that former Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala had hoodwinked the public especially the rural people by telling them that their electricity bills would be waived off but instead the farmers faced police brutality.

While admitting that there was power shortage in the State, he explained that his predecessors had virtually done nothing to set up new power plants. He had taken the initiative to set up new plants and the results would be visible in the next two-and-a-half years when power supply would be augmented by 5,000 MW.

Describing Gohana as his “home town”, he asserted that he knew what would be the best for the people of the area which had hitherto remained backward.

“Now, we are implementing multifarious schemes to catapult Haryana into number one State with the blessings of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the buzzword is development,” he asserted.

Projects involving an investment of Rs. 140 crore for Gohana sub-division were announced by Prof. Virinder, political advisor to the Chief Minister.
