This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru told the Lok Sabha on August 26 that although India had written to the UN Security Council protesting against the execution by Pakistan of the Mangla Dam, she did not propose to raise this question for discussion at this stage. Mr. Nehru, who was replying to Dr. Ram Subhag Singh, added that no reply had yet been received by the Government to the letter which India’s Permanent Representative at the UN had addressed to the Security Council President. He said Pakistan’s proposal to construct the dam was a violation of the Security Council resolutions. From information available, it was evident the Pakistan Government had issued notifications to acquire land in Mirpur district for this project.
