The race to catch viewers in a spiritual mood is fast catching up on Telugu television. Even as NTV is busy preparing to launch its devotional channel ‘Bhakti’ towards the month-end, describing it as the first such one down the Vindhyas, the news channel TV9 came out with ‘Sanskruti’. Positioned as first multi-religious spiritual and cultural beaming in south, the new channel has content for all. Those who caught up with its early telecast were treated to a varied content from ‘Pranayama’ to discourses to devotional renderings. With ‘Sanskruti’ already released and the countdown having started for NTV’s offering, all eyes are on Maa TV now. Maa has a good library of content generated as part of its entertainment channel’s devotional segment and this is what the channel is banking upon. Telugu viewers sure are not complaining at the way different groups are preparing to flood the idiot box with options. Raj TV is said to be keen on having more channels apart from its Vissa while Asianet too is learnt to be preparing ground here. Talk is that the latter has already roped in some personnel from other channels and soon will recruit more. A couple of names considered successful in the industry are already in.Who follows them is to be seen, perhaps in a fortnight’s time. Loads of talent
Kids really excelled with their voice on Zee Telugu’s popular show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ and the talent hunt could give impetus to the channel in looking at ways of generating more enthusiasm for it among viewers. The channel did hit well with Udaya Bhanu’s Gold Rush last year but a lull followed the success. Will persons brought in to prop up the fiction wing be able to weave some magic and come out with the mantra for success? T. Lalith Singh
