Parties condemn twin blasts in Hyderabad

Staff Reporter

It’s an intelligence failure, say BJP, CPI(M)

An act of cowardice: CPI

Plea to step up security at vital installations

VISAKHAPATNAM: The twin bomb blasts in Hyderabad drew all-round condemnation in the city on Sunday.

Cutting across party affiliation, all parties condemned the killing of innocent persons in the blasts at Gokul Chat Bhandar and Lumbini Park on Saturday.

The BJP and the CPI(M) termed it an intelligence failure and blamed the State Government for not taking preventive steps despite warning by the Central intelligence that Pakistan-trained terrorists would indulge in attacks.

The Congress and the CPI condemned the incident and underlined the need to maintain communal amity. CPI district secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy described the blasts an act of cowardice.

CPI (M) district secretary charged the Government with failure to act upon the Centre’s alert on possible attacks and asked the police to take steps to arrest the terrorists. He said the security should be tightened to prevent recurrence of such attacks.

ISI effigy burnt

BJP activists led by BJP national executive member and former MLA K. Haribabu took part in burning the effigy of ISI agents wrapped with the national flag of Pakistan at Maddilapalem junction.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the blasts should be condemned by everyone and asked the Government to initiate action to people who perpetrated the crime to book immediately and instil confidence among the people of Hyderabad.

Despite threats by ISI agents and recent blast at Mecca masjid, the Rajasekhara Reddy Government slept in deep slumber, he alleged.

‘No steps taken’

Dr. Haribabu said all the terrorist attacks, including the gunning down of Hiren Pandya and blasts at Akshardham and Indian Institute of Science had originated in Hyderabad, he said the Congress Government had not taken steps to stop ISI-sponsored terrorism.

BJP city president P.V. Narayana Rao said that the Congress was pursuing a minority-appeasement policy.

State secretary Bandaru Ranga Mohana Rao, Yuva Morcha general secretary P.N.V.Madhav, State executive members T. Subbarami Reddy, J. Pruthviraj, K. Ratna Kumari and others were present.
