Gearing up for Karunanidhi’s visit

CUDDALORE: Preparations are in full swing for the visit of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to Cuddalore on August 30.

The entire official machinery has been geared up to oversee the arrangements. District Collector Rajendra Ratnoo held a meeting with the officials on Saturday to discuss the steps to be taken.

The Chief Minister will give away free colour television sets and gas stoves at the official function to be held on the Manjakuppam grounds here. Since, it is a rainy season, special care has been taken to provide protective cover at the venue.

A separate dais will be erected for the Chief Minister to address the gathering. Police personnel have already been posted on the grounds. According to Inspector General of Police K. Radhakrishnan, a 1,800-strong police force would be deployed at the venue.

Deputy Inspector General of Police G. K. Vanniabperumalsupervised the works.
