PUDUCHERRY: A total of 656 activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) courted arrest in the Union Territory on Friday by picketing Central Government offices to highlight demands including social security for workers in the unorganised sector. A party functionary said the protest was staged at five places in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. The protest was also aimed at demanding the State and Centre to take firm steps to control skyrocketing prices, issuance of free house site pattas for the roofless and providing dole to educated unemployed. — Staff Reporter
