Two youths held for waylaying motorists

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Police have arrested two city youths on charges of waylaying motorists, and recovered a car, mobile phones and laptops. According to police, their modus operandi was simple: they would deliberately dash their motorcycle against a car and trick the drivers into believing it was their mistake.

After persuading the drivers to drop them at their homes, they would take them to an isolated spot, overpower them and steal the cash, valuables and at times even the vehicle. Police identified the two as Suresh (21) of Tirunagar, Vadapalani and his accomplice Balaji (22) of Kodambakkam. Police recovered four mobile phones, a laptop and other valuables.

Their other victims include a bank manager, who lost his laptop in Ashok Nagar. Similar instances of waylaying acts were committed in K.K.Nagar and near Loyola College, where the duo fled with Rs 12,000 cash.
