Five hurt in clash

Staff Reporter

PALANI: Five persons were injured in a group clash at new Ayakudi near here on Tuesday.

Four of the injured were admitted to Palani Government Hospital and one person was referred to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

The police said that Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Sheikh Dawood had a quarrel over a land dispute. After a prolonged wordy dual, Jinnah reportedly attacked Dawood with a lethal weapon. His neighbours, who tried to rescue him, were also injured in the clash. Later, supporters of both the parties clashed with each other.

Meanwhile, some unidentified persons of one group threw country bombs, used to scare away animals, on the other group. However, no one was injured in the blast.

Nine persons were arrested in this connection so far.
