Malda: Altogether 37 houses were submerged in the river Ganga since Monday night due to severe erosion in Manikchak block of Malda district. Besides the houses in Prasaditola and Ramnagar villages, an unspecified area of farm land was also eaten up by the river, block development officer Sandip Nag said. Panicked local people started moving to safer places. Mr. Nag said erosion took place in 3.5 km area from Narayanpur to Jotpatta in the block since July 27 rendering 248 families homeless.
