A bridge has

been built

across the Don

KANMUCHNAL (BIJAPUR DISTRICT): This tiny village on the right bank of the Don, a tributary of the Krishna, is just 15 km away from taluk and district headquarters of Bijapur. It used to remain cut off from the outside world whenever the river was in spate.

The road connecting to Bijapur used to remain inaccessible for want of a bridge.

For decades, the villagers had been asking for a bridge across the river but their demand was not met because “they hardly had political clout.”

Their woes seem to have become a thing of the past. They are now closely linked to the district headquarters thanks to initiative taken by Tikota MLA, M.B. Patil, under whose segment the village falls.

There was a festive atmosphere in the village on Tuesday as the bridge constructed at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore was thrown open for traffic.

The villagers gave rousing reception to Mr. Patil and Minister for Textiles Appasaheb Pattanashetti who inaugurated the bridge.
