E. Ahamed to inaugurate the camp Kunhalikutty to release a Haj guide
MALAPPURAM: Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed will inaugurate a study camp on Haj organised by the Pookkottur Khilafat Memorial Islamic Centre (PKMIC) on the campus at Pookkottur, near here, on Wednesday morning. Muslim leader Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal will preside over the function. Indian Union Muslim League general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty will release a Haj guide by handing over the first copy to Mujeeb Pookkottur. Central Haj Committee vice-president Alikutty Musliar will release the Haj bulletin. Sunni Yuvajana Sanghom State secretary Abdussamad Pookkottur will lead the two-day camp in which over 6,000 Hajis are expected to participate. The organisers said at a press conference at the venue on Tuesday that more than 5,000 pilgrims had registered at the camp. Food, accommodation and transportation will be free for the participants, Mr. Abdussamad said. A large shamiana has been erected on the campus. Thousands of chairs have been arranged in separate sections for men and women. The organisers said the many families in Pookkottur had contributed in cash or kind. A model of the Ka’ba has been set up at the camp. “We will demonstrate the procedure of Haj pilgrimage using the miniature Ka’ba,” Mr. Abdussamad said. He said the study camps conducted by the State and Central Haj Committees usually omitted the process of Haj. “We’re trying to give a complete rehearsal of the Haj ,” he added. Muslim League leader Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal will inaugurate the new mosque constructed on the campus and declare it open by leading the obligatory mid-day prayer. Free medical check-up will be provided at the study camp. All pilgrims will be given files of their medical history so as to aid them in case of any ailment during the Haj in Mecca. The camp will conclude on Thursday evening.
