New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation on a bail application filed by Rashtriya Janata Dal Member of Parliament Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav in the case relating to the murder of CPI(M) activist Ajit Sarkar. A Bench of Justices S.B. Sinha and H.S. Bedi asked the CBI to file its response on a submission from Pappu Yadav that he could be released on bail as the recording of evidence was over and there was no chance of tampering with evidence or threatening witnesses. “Delaying trial”
Opposing the bail plea, Additional Solicitor-General Amarendra Saran said the accused was delaying the completion of trial. The defence had sought recalling of two witnesses who turned hostile. In January 2005, the apex court cancelled the bail granted to Pappu Yadav by the Patna High Court and he was shifted from the Beur Jail in Patna to the Tihar Jail in Delhi. Apex court allows plea
The Supreme Court allowed appeals filed by Kalyan Chandra Sarkar, brother of Ajit Sarkar, and the CBI challenging the High Court order granting bail.
