Demand for rakhis down due to bomb blasts

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Raksha Bandhan was celebrated across the twin cities on Tuesday, though not with the usual pomp and splendour. Men could be spotted with colourful strings tied around their wrists while labelled boxes waiting to be picked up in sweet shops indicated the festive spirit.

The fact that Raksha Bandhan cuts across religions in Hyderabad was evident in the rakhi Sudhakar received from a Muslim girl.

The rakhi sellers sigh unanimously when asked about the demand this year.

“It is very bad. I’ve incurred losses to the extent of Rs. One lakh,” said T. Sanjay“Demand begins only two days prior to the festival and it was then that the twin bomb blasts took place and the shops remained closed the next day due to BJP bandh,” he adds.
