eSeva centre staffer held

Staff Reporter

GUDIVADA: The Gudivada town police on Tuesday arrested Surapaneni Jayakrishna, 36, an accountant in eSeva centre at Rajendra Nagar on the charge of misappropriating Government funds to the tune of Rs. 73.8 lakhs and cheating the officials by forging records.

Jayakrishna, an employee of Gudivada municipality, was deputed to the eSeva in 2003 and was handling the accounts department since then. On August 6, administrative officer M. Suresh Kumar grew suspicious over a financial statement sent by Jayakrishna and verified the records. After conducting a departmental enquiry, Mr. Kumar lodged a complaint with the Gudivada town police on August 9 accusing Jayakrishna of forging bank passbooks and statements of accounts and swindling an amount of Rs. 73,81,000 between March and July this year.

Though the police were trying to take Jayakrisna into custody, he was absconding. On Tuesday afternoon, the police took him into custody at Peda Palaparru bus stand.
