Three-day Jatha from September 8

PUTTUR: Taluk Raitha Hitharakshana Vedike has decided to stage a three-day jatha of farmers from Sullia on September 8. Farmers participating in the rally, which would end at Mangalore, would be urging the Government to provide immediate financial relief to areca nut growers.

Loss

The farmers in Dakshina Kannada had suffered about 60 per cent to 70 per cent loss in yields owing to fruit rot disease and heavy rain.

Moreover, there was no remedy for the fruit rot diseases, the vedike activists said.

The jatha would pass through Jalsuru, Kumbra, Puttur, Mani, Kalladka, B.C. Road before culminate at Mangalore.

In Mangalore, a mammoth public meeting would be held at Nehru Maidan, the vedike activists said.
