Good work: Ministers -- Basavaraj S. Horatti and R Ashok --, at the science exhibitionin the District Institute of Education and Training campus, in Bangalore on Tuesday.
BANGALORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti on Tuesday said the department would come out with stringent rules for admissions to Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) course for teacher training within a week. For the majority of over 700 institutes offering D.Ed., course in the State, the course has become a lucrative business. Private institutes, to make money, admit students who do not have merit under management quota. The Government was determined to regulate such practices and admissions made without merit would be cancelled, Mr. Horatti warned. He was speaking after inaugurating several facilities at the District Institute of Education and Training, Bangalore Urban, at Rajarajeshwarinagar here. The Minister noted that 32 Tamil D. Ed., colleges were functioning around Bangalore. While the classes were conducted in Tamil Nadu, for certificate-sake, colleges were functioning in Karnataka. While there are around 90 Tamil medium schools in and around Bangalore, each D. Ed., college requires at least five schools for practical training. On the other hand, not a single Kannada D. Ed., college was functioning in neighbouring States. “This cannot continue and we will ruthlessly curb such practices,” Mr. Horatti stated. The Government had recruited over 30,000 teachers Minister for Health and Family Welfare urged Mr. Horatti to issue a direction to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to offer sites free of cost to Government schools in BDA layouts. To this, Mr. Horatti said a suitable direction would be issued to the BDA.
