POLLACHI: Shutters were down in Jameen Uthukuli town panchayat and Samathur, near here, on Tuesday in protest against the proposal of Delimitation Commission to attach their area with Udumalpet Assembly constituency.
The people wanted that their area should either remain with Pollachi Assembly segment or with the Aanamalai constituency, as announced in the draft scheme of the Commission.
More than 750 residents including 200 women took out a procession to Pollachi sub-collector’s office to press their demand.
They pointed out that as their area was located close to Pollachi, it would be appropriate to attach it with Pollachi Assembly segment.
College inaugurated
Info Institute of Engineering founded by Dharabhari Charitable Trust located at Kovilpalayam on Coimbatore – Sathyamangalam road was inaugurated on Monday.
A release from the College said that the institution is founded by the chairman of the Trust, K.K. Veluchamy of the Deccan Group of Industries.
The campus of 30 acres extent has a pollution-free atmosphere which provides an ideal learning ambience.
