59 industrial projects cleared

Investors have to acquire land from farmers

BANGALORE: The State Government on Tuesday cleared 59 industrial projects, including 14 Special Economic Zones, with a total investment of Rs. 63,561.24 crore. The projects are expected to provide employment to 9.11 lakh people.

The State High-level Clearance Committee (SHLCC), headed by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, held a meeting with officials and cleared proposals for 16 information technology (IT) and biotechnology parks with an investment of Rs. 22,202.97 crore, and 10 IT and ITES (information technology-enabled services) SEZs with an investment of Rs. 4,634.99 crore.

Though the approved industrial units are spread across the State, the majority of them will come up in Bangalore Urban (15), Bangalore Rural (9), Mysore (7) and Mangalore and Bellary (5 each) districts.

Land acquisition

Addressing presspersons after the meeting, Mr. Naidu said the Government had told investors that the responsibility of acquiring land for SEZs would lie with them and not with the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). The private entrepreneurs had to purchase land directly from farmers.

The SHLCC also approved seven sugar units, five steel plants, four tourism zones, four power ventures, two software development units, two chemical units and others.

The panel approved a proposal by the State-owned Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) to establish a 1,000 MW thermal plant at Raichur on 1,000 acres with an investment of Rs. 4,160 crore. The project is expected to generate 6,735 jobs. The RTPS would also establish a 1,500 MW unit on 2,187 acres in Bellary by investing Rs. 6,300 crore.

Clearance was given for a gas-based power plant to be developed by the Reliance Group headed by Mukesh Ambani, at Humnabad in Bidar, with an investment of Rs. 2,400 crore on 200 acres, to generate 800 MW.Jupiter Aviation and Logistics Private Ltd., headed by Rajeev Chandrashekar, MP, would invest Rs. 630 crore to establish an aviation training academy technology campus and an inland container depot in Hassan. It would acquire 540 acres and the project would generate 6,500 jobs, he said.

Others to get the nod were Hindustan Infrastructure Projects and Engineering Ltd. for a super-speciality hospital and a convention centre in Hassan on 390 acres.Rukmini Ram Private Ltd. will establish a sponge iron plant at Hagaribommanahalli in Bellary district, while Arihant Private Ltd. will set up a 1.5 lakh tonnes a year steel plant at Hagaribommanahalli on 125 acres. It is expected to employ 510 persons. Dhurvdesh Mega Steel Private Ltd. will invest Rs. 145.78 crore for a steel plant in Koppal taluk on 46.07 acres.
