BANGALORE: The foundation stone of the Shimoga airport will be laid on September 3. Announcing this at a press conference in Bangalore on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would participate in the function. He said global tenders had already been invited, and that the airport was expected to be ready in 18 months. Compensation cheques would be given on August 31 to farmers whose lands had been acquired. Nearly 625 acres of land had been acquired from 300 farmers for the project. Total compensation of about Rs. 21 crore would be paid to farmers, he said. Mr. Yediyurappa said the new Government medical college in Shimoga would also be inaugurated on the same day. All the infrastructure facilities had been provided and the college would operate from this academic year itself, he added. Reviewed
He also reviewed the facilities at the medical college at a meeting of the administrative council members of the college. Mr. Yediyurappa announced that McGann Hospital in Shimoga would be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs. 94 crore.
