Training for jobless youth

KANCHEEPURAM: The State Government has proposed to conduct demand-driven short-term training courses for unemployed youth, covered under the Financial Assistance to Jobless Youth scheme in Tamil Nadu, so as to help them earn a placement in industrial units and other establishments.

According to official sources, 220 candidates will be trained free of cost in basic welding, basic turning, basic welding (arc), repair and maintenance of electronic and electrical goods and desk top publishing at 11 Government-run I.T.I in this region comprising Chennai, Kancheepuram, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts in the first batch.

Syllabus formulated by the Directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour, Union Government for its Modular Employability Skill programme, will form the base for the short-term course.

While a course on basic welding (arc) will be conducted at the I.T.Is at Chengalpattu, Guindy, Ranipet, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai, courses on basic turning will be conducted at North Chennai I.T.I, basic electrical course at Arakonam institute, repair and maintenance of audio systems and other equipment at Tiruvanmiyur and course on repair of home appliances and desk top publishing at I.T.Is for women at Ambattur and Guindy, respectively, sources said.

A total of 28 persons, who have registered their names with the District Employment Office, Kancheepuram and receiving the monthly assistance, have applied for the short-term training course.

Applications from eligible candidates were also being received at the District Employment Offices of other districts coming under this region, sources added.
