KANCHEEPURAM: Elected representatives of the Pattali Makkal Katchi from Chengalpattu region have urged the State Government to drop the satellite township project once and for all for the benefit of local people.
Talking to reporters at Tiruporur on Tuesday, Chengalpattu MP A. K. Moorthy, Chengalpattu MLA K. Arumugham and Tiruporur MLA D. Moorthy have said residents of more than 110 villages, surrounded by the Grand Southern Trunk Road in the west, Tambaram in the north, the East Coast Road in the East and Chengalpattu town in the north had once again become restless following the recent publication of reports said to have been issued by a Dravidian movement leader, a senior Minister in Tamil Government and the Chief Minister himself in support of formation of a satellite township.
“We make a fervent appeal to the State Government to stick to its stand made public in the floor of the Assembly by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi that it would drop the satellite township project”, they said.
Public hearing
PMK founder S. Ramadoss would be attending a public hearing to be held at Tiruporur on September 5 and would be presenting his suggestions to the State Government on how to solve the problem without affecting the interest of every section of the society.
Airport issue
Similarly, the Government could even think of taking up the international airport project near Tiruporur instead of acquiring fertile land at Sriperumpudur. Setting up of an airport abutting the ECR would help give access to the Information Technology Corridor, he added.
