AIADMK to protest in Vidaiyur against illegal sand quarrying

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Volunteers of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will stage a protest demonstration in Vidaiyur in Tirutani Assembly constituency on Wednesday to condemn “illegal quarrying” of sand by private parties.

In a statement here on Tuesday, party general secretary Jayalalithaa said during her regime she had banned sand quarrying in that area taking into consideration the welfare of the local people. But after the DMK came to power, the ban was lifted which affected agriculture and drinking water supply in abut 25 surrounding villages.

Party organising secretary S.Semmalai will lead the demonstration in which party MLA K.Hari and other district party office-bearers will participate.

Minister’s rejoinder

However, Public Works Minister Durai Murugan challenged Jayalalithaa to prove the charges against the Government.
