CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has said that it would appoint a one-man committee to go into the allegations and issues relating to the validity of courses being offered by the ICFAI in Tamil Nadu.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice P. Jyothimani, expressing “serious doubts” about the nature of courses and the modus operandi of the Uttarakhand-based private university, said the court would pass appropriate orders after the committee’s report on the teaching mode as well as the nature of violations of law, if any. Entities such as the UGC and the AICTE should extend all assistance to the proposed committee. The Bench further observed that the private university was “virtually conducting hundreds of colleges” all over the country contrary to the Supreme Court rulings.
It all started with a petition filed by B.N. Devadoss, who sought to restrain the ICFAI from conducting full-time academic programmes, study centres and other courses in Tamil Nadu without approval from statutory authorities.
