MUMBAI: The Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights has criticised the Maharashtra government for failing to protect the rights of the adivasis to forest land while favouring a wind energy company in Dhule district. A fact finding team from the CPDR which investigated the violence being unleashed over the adivasis in Dhule district said that the administration should immediately settle the issue of land rights for the adivasis in a time-bound manner. Dr. Anand Teltumbde, writer and human rights activist, Sanjay Dabhade, Akram Siddiqui and S. Ansari comprised the team which released a report titled “Unclean Intrigues Behind Clean energy” on Tuesday. Dr. Teltumbde told the press that on July 14 adivasis of Pangan and Mograpada villages, 70 km from Dhule, were lathi charged after midnight and later 18 persons including a young girl were arrested and detained for three days. The people from Mograpada had prevented a wind tower from coming up in their area as part of a massive wind energy project being set up by Suzlon Energy Limited.
