Guwahati: A leopard, which strayed from the Segunbari hills into a residential locality in the Fatasil Ambari area of the city was killed by residents after it attacked three persons, injuring two of them critically, on Tuesday.
Locals said the leopard fell into a well around 3 a.m. and its roar drew a large crowd. The police reached the spot and informed the Forest Department. However, before the Forest team from the Assam State Zoo reached the spot, the full grown female leopard jumped out of the well and entered a house nearby. It attacked three persons, two of whom had to be rushed to hospital. The crowd then attacked it with sticks killing it on the spot. Incidents of leopards straying into city limits have become common in recent years. Earlier in November an adult male leopard died when it was trapped in a well in Malegaon.
