We didn’t suspend policemen: Deshmukh

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Tuesday said neither he nor his deputy R.R. Patil had given the suspension order of the constable who hugged actor Sanjay Dutt after the star’s release from Pune’s Yerwada Jail.

“Neither of us gave the order. The order came from IG (Prisons), who was asked to probe the incident and check if the Constable’s behavior was in line with the police manual as well as the Maharashtra Civil Services Rules,” he told reporters at Aurangabad after a meeting to review drought situation in Marathwada region.

While probing the matter, the version of the constable should be taken into account and also his emotional state during the act, he said.
