Hema clinches title

Madurai: B. Hema of Kendriya Vidyalaya won the above-14 title in the State-level chess tournament for boys and girls organised by Best Chess Academy at Madurai on Sunday.

Final placings:

AKCE triumphs

Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering (Krishnan Kovil) beat PSN Engineering College (Tirunelveli) 47-40 to win the title in the Anna University zone X inter-engineering basketball tournament at Kovilpatti recently.

VOC declared best

VOC College emerged the best college, while Vikaasa School emerged the best school in the tenth annual Pearl City Trophy Tuticorin District chess tournament for colleges and schools organised by Pearl City Chess Association at Tuticorin on Sunday.

Individual champions:

Colleges: Rajasekaran (VOC College).

Schools: U-17: Vignesh Perumal (Spic Nagar HSS); U-15: Ramasubramanian (BMC HSS); U-13: Veeralingam (APCV MHSS); U-11: Abish (St. Thomas HSS); U-9: Tubel (Vika asa); U-7: Christo (Vikaasa).

Inter-school TT tournament

The SDAT-ETTCA Stag International District-level inter-school table tennis tournament will be organised by Madurai District Table Tennis Association at VKK Play Group School, Madurai on September 6 and 7. For details, contact B. Sundar, TT Coach at 94435 01721.

Athletics meet

Tiruvannamalai District Athletic Association will conduct the 80th Tamil Nadu State senior championship on September 6 and 7 at SDAT, District Sports Complex (Collectorate Office Campus), here.

Those selected from this meet will take part in the 47th National and inter-State championship to be held at Bhopal from September 17 to 20.
