Govt. to get stay on removal of hoardings vacated
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Government will take immediate steps to get the stay on removal of hoardings in the city vacated to enable it to go ahead with its beautification drive.
This was decided at a multi-agency meeting chaired by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
The meeting, attended by legal experts, law enforcers, representatives from the civic body and Municipal Administration, noted that in cities such as New Delhi and Bangalore there were restrictions on placing hoardings. A similar drive was needed here and in all the other five municipal corporations.
The meeting appealed to those who had put up hoardings without consent or a court stay to remove them without delay.
It also said political parties and organisations would be allowed to put up hoardings and billboards only three days ahead of an event.
They would have to pull them down two days after the event.
If not, the Government would remove them.
