TIRUPATI: The two-day 57th Vardhanthi of Veturi Prabhakara Sasthry, Telugu literary doyen got off to a solemn start in the TTD’s Mahathi Auditorium here on Wednesday. Late Veturi was one of the early litterateurs to be associated with the TTD in deciphering the Annamacharya krithis found inscribed on the copper plates and in bringing out editions on the works. TTD top-brass, B. Karunakar Reddy, Board Chairman and Executive Officer, K.V. Ramanachari besides Veturi Anandamurthy, scholar and son of late Veturi spoke at the inaugural of the 2-day literary meet. They paid rich encomiums to the quality of the head and heart of Prabhakara Sasthri and his invaluable contribution in making the saint-poet Annamacharya’s krithis seeing the light of the day and eventually becoming a household name subsequently. Director of TTD’s SVETA, Bhumana Subramanyam Reddy compered the programme which ended with a Kuchipudi ballet presented in the ‘Suladi’ tradition by R. Sathyanarayana and troupe from Mysore. At another literary programme held in the TTD’s Sri Padmavathi Women’s College organised under the aegis of the ‘Telugu Bhashodyama Samithi’, Tirupati the 144th birth anniversary of Gidugu Ramamurthy, who was acknowledged as the father of the ‘colloquial Telugu movement’ was celebrated. Among the speakers were former V-C of the Dravidian University, Ravva Srihari, Veturi Anandamurthy, Bhuman, SVETA-Director, Samala Ramesh Babu. C.Swarajya Lakshmi, College Principal.
