Bhubaneswar: A former deputy general manager of the Rourkela Steel Plant, allegedly involved in a multi-crore scam and absconding from the last three years, was arrested by CBI sleuths from his hideout in Goa. According to official sources, K.P. Singh was arrested from his apartment in Goa on August 25 where he was hiding after being chargesheeted by the CBI. “A non-bailable warrant was pending against Singh’s name,” a senior CBI officer said, adding that he had been remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday after his bail application was rejected by the special CBI judge here. Sources said Singh was among the 30 officers of the plant who had been accused of embezzlement of funds when its modernisation scheme was implemented between 1990 and 2000. The CBI was asked to probe the allegation of fraud after the issue was raised in Parliament.- PTI
