VIZIANAGARAM: Panic gripped tribals once again following rumours that wild elephants that were driven away on Monday towards Orissa were back at Addamguda and Murada villages in G.L. Puram mandal on Tuesday evening.
Divisional Forest Officer B. Ramana Babu, however, said the herd was now at Guranda village in Orissa, 12 km away from Andhra border.
“There is no need to panic as the trained elephant that is brought from Chittoor, mahouts and trackers have constantly kept a vigil on the track,” he said. Along with the DFO of Rayagada, a joint strategy was being evolved to find a permanent solution.
Meanwhile, zoo doctors declared that post-mortem examination was not be possible as it was completely decomposed. The carcass was buried at the same spot after tribals offered prayers and performed last rites, he added.
