CPI(M) for separate authority on land affairs

Correspondent

Kakinada: The CPI (M) has urged the government to constitute a separate authority to look into land affairs to ensure impartial and speedy action, according to party State Committee member B. Venkat.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday along with district leaders T. Prakash, Ch. Ajay Kumar and Duvva Seshu Babji, he said constitution of a State-level committee headed by the Chief Minister was not at all acceptable to them as it would not serve the purpose. He said the separate authority should consist of officials and non-officials for its effective functioning. In this context, he suggested that retired IAS officers such as S.R. Sankaran and K.R. Venugopal should be included on such panels. As part of the programme to enlighten the people on the party’s stance on the nuclear agreement with the United States, Mr. Venkat said that the CPI (M), in cooperation with the CPI, proposed to launch two all-India yatras.
