Training programme for self-help groups inaugurated

THANJAVUR: The district offers wide scope for starting art-based industries, according to K. Rajamani, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency.

Inaugurating a special training programme on production of sandalwood, zardoshi, woollen and plastic wire garlands to women self-help group members and differently-abled persons here on Wednesday, he said the district was well-known for its artistic metal plates, paintings, sandalwood garlands, musical instruments, icons and ornamental lamps.

The training would go a long way in empowering the SHGs. Silk weaving was done on a large-scale in Kumbakonam.

The Agency was involved in giving them additional training so that they could compete in the market with their quality products.
