Chennai moves up

PUDUKOTTAI: Chennai in the men’s section and Pudukottai in the women’s category entered the semifinals of the state senior inter-district badminton championship, jointly conducted by the Pudukottai District Badminton Association and JJ College of Arts and Science, here on Wednesday.

The results:

Men: Quarterfinals: Chennai bt Namakkal 3-1 (Siddharth Jain bt Narendran 21-10, 21-5; Velavan lost to M. Karthikeyan 21-23, 22-24; Prakash & Manik Jalal bt Srinivasan & Karthik 21-14, 21-5; M.R. Manikandan bt Karthik 21-8, 21-7 ).

Pre-quarterfinals: Pudukottai bt Nilgris 3-1.

Women: Quarterfinals: Pudukottai bt Namakkal 2-0 (Abirami bt Srimathi 21-9, 21-5; Abirami & Jenny bt Srimathi & Jerlin 21-14, 21-3).

Sethu Institute of Technology defeated SKP Engineering College 54-21 and entered the quarterfinal of the Anna University inter-zonal basketball tournament at Pudukottai on Wednesday.

S. Kovendhan’s five-wicket haul was the highlight of Cuddalore’s 31-run win over Vellore in league encounter of the TNCA under-17 inter-district cricket tournament in Neyveli on Wednesday.

At Neyveli: ‘D’ zone: Cuddalore 211 in 49.5 overs (G. Rajesh 76, Kovendhan 33, B. Naresh Babu four for 48) bt Vellore 180 in 44.4 overs (B. Naresh Babu 52, R. Rohit 36, S. Kovendhan five for 34).

Theni 200 in 40.3 overs (I. Sudeesh 53, Arun Kumar 52, Karthik three for 29) lost to Villupuram 201 for six in 32.5 overs (Balamurugan 59, Manimaran 50).
