VIJAYAWADA: Two innovative systems, introduced by the city police a couple of years ago, have proved to be successful showing the way to their counterparts in other cities to follow the suit. While the Court Monitoring System (CMS) has resulted in an increase in the conviction rate, the Crime Detection and Interrogation Cell (CDIC) has provided a databank of accused persons and suspects. Located on the premises of Suryaraopet police station, both systems were launched in 2005 by the then Police Commissioner Umesh Sharraf. The CMS consists of a sub-inspector of police, 14 assistant sub-inspectors and as many constables at the rate of one ASI and constable each to all the 14 courts located in the city. Its staff attends the court trials regularly. After filing the charge-sheet against the accused, station house officers of the police stations concerned handover the case details to the CMS, which takes care of representing the police in the court sessions. The objective of the CDIC is to maintain a complete record of the accused and suspects.
