VISAKHAPATNAM: Women’s organisations have demanded probe by a High Court judge into the charge of gang rape of 11 tribal women at Vakapalli by Greyhounds personnel.
Addressing a meeting here on Wednesday, K. Padma of Mahila Chetana said police investigation would not do justice as the involvement of police was alleged. She deplored the police top bras prejudging the incident without any investigation taking place. Only the intervention of the high court and the State Human Rights Commission had spurred the officials to submit their version, she said.Former Union Energy Secretary E.A.S. Sarma, while condemning the incident, deplored the delay in initiating action and expressed confidence in the legal system. Stating that the tribals were always caught in the crossfire between the police and the Maoists, he said only exerting pressure would lead to action. Lakshmi of POW, Advocate K.V. Rama Murthy, Sumitra of AU Law Department, Jhansi of Stree Sakti, Chalasani Prasad (Virasam), APCLC district president Srirama Murthy and others participated.
