Ivana assured of gold

NEW DELHI: Goa’s growing talent Ivana Furtado made sure of the under-8 title after taking an unbeatable 1.5-point lead following the eighth and penultimate round of the Asian Youth chess championship at Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Rising Stars maintained its one-point lead after a 2.5-2.5 result against Experience in the sixth round of the NH tournament at Amsterdam.

The results: Asian Youth championship (involving Indians): Eighth round: Boys U-14: Mehar Chinna Reddy (4.5) lost to Salem Saleh (UAE, 6); S. P. Sethuraman (6.5) bt Saeed Ishaq (UAE, 4.5); Nazar Ospanov (Kaz, 5) drew with Prasanna Rao (6); Daniel Chan Yi-Ren (Sin, 6) bt Pranav Shetty (4.5); Islomjon Amanbaev (Kgz, 4.5) drew with Vidit Gujarati (4.5); Jon Christer Aplin (Sin, 4.5) drew with Ankit Rajpara (4.5).
