There seems to be no end in sight to the tiff between Asianet Satellite Communications and the broadcasting company, Sony Entertainment Television (SET)-Discovery. The One Alliance bouquet of channels, which includes some prime channels, including NDTV, Sony and Sony Max, has been off the cable service of Asianet since June 21, much to the consternation of viewers. Allegations of under-declaration of subscription base and non-payment of dues by cable services have always been the root cause of squabbles between cable operators and broadcasters. This is not the first time that such squabbles have ended up in a host of channels being blacked out for viewers for months together. DTH services have been gaining ground in the midst of all this. In fact, ‘no more quarrels with cable operators’ is one of the catch lines of one major DTH service. C. Maya
