NAMAKKAL: The State Government would provide necessary financial support to the local bodies for taking up more development works, Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin has said.
Participating at the function organised to distribute free colour televisions, stoves with liquefied petroleum gas connections and welfare assistance here on Thursday, the Minister said that the Government was implementing several programmes to improve the infrastructure facilities in rural and urban areas. If required, more assistance would be provided to the local administrations to improve the facilities.
He said that the Government covered 2,540 villages under the ‘Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam’ in the last financial year.
This year, the scheme was being implemented in 2,530 villages.
He said that the Government had come up with a new programme - All Town Panchayats Anna Renaissance Scheme - this year to undertake development works in town panchayats. Each town panchayat would be allotted Rs. 50 lakh under the scheme. A total of 140 town panchayats would be covered this year. In Namakkal district, the Government has selected R. Puthupatti, Pattanam, Kalappanaickanpatti and Seerapalli town panchayats.
