ON FUTURE PLANS: Bharathidasan University Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaiko speaking on “Freshers’ Day” at a constituent college in Perambalur on Thursday.
PERAMBALUR: Bharathidasan University will start undergraduate and diploma courses in animation science from the current academic year. The university will also introduce skill-based courses to all arts and science subjects in affiliated colleges, Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaiko said.
Speaking at a function to mark ‘Freshers’ day’ at the university’s constituent college here on Thursday, he said the animation science course would provide ample career opportunities. The modalities were being worked out.
Employability skills
Emphasising on the need to improve employability skills of college students, Dr. Ponnavaiko said the university would co-ordinate with private polytechnics and other technical institutes and also enter into a memorandum of understanding to offer courses on Tally, DTP, plumbing, diesel mechanism, fitter, electrician programmes etc. as electives. Students would be benefited by virtue of the choice-based credit system as well.
Work on the construction of new buildings for the college at Elambalur, near here, was in progress and would be completed within 10 months.
The rented building, where the college is at present located, would continue to be the centre for imparting training and other programmes.
Replying to a request made by college director M. Nallu, he said two more National Service Scheme units would be started in the college from the academic year.
In his report, Mr. Nallu said 587 students had been admitted to 14 courses this year.
Special District Revenue Officer (Land Acquisition) M. Narayanan and Controller of Examinations of Bharathidasan University R. Balasubramanian were among those who spoke.
