Krishnagiri: A proposal to lay an inner ring road in Hosur at an outlay of Rs.12 crores has been prepared by the Department of Highways, said Minister for Highways V. Saminathan, here on Thursday.
Acquisition
At a function organised to distribute free gas stoves and colour television sets, Mr. Saminathan said that land acquisition works were underway and the Government had sanctioned an amount of Rs. 3.5 crores in this connection.
On completion, the ring road project would reduce traffic congestion in the industrial town.
Besides this, the upgradation of single-lane roads in Krishnagiri district would attract more investment to the industrial town of Hosur.
Zone
The establishment of the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near Hosur would generate employment opportunities in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, he added, in his address at the function.
Mr. Saminathan said that the Government had allotted an amount of Rs. 3,527 crore for conversion of single-lane roads into double-lane roads in the State.
He added that the Department of Highways would take up conversion of single-lane roads to a length of 1,000 km in the current fiscal.
The minister said that the Government had sanctioned an estimate of Rs.113 crore for upgradation of single-lane roads in Krishnagiri district in the current year.
Tenders would be floated and road-improvement works taken up shortly.
He distributed free colour television sets, gas stoves and welfare assistance to the tune of Rs.76.71 lakhs to 892 beneficiaries.
