Speaker had issued order freezing their membership It was based on a disqualification petition
PANAJI: Goa Speaker Pratapsingh Rane on Thursday revoked his earlier ad interim ex-parte order of freezing the membership of two MLAs of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) over a disqualification petition against them in the midst of political crisis in the State. Ramakrishna Dhavlikar and his brother Dipak Dhavlikar, who were restrained from voting by the order of the Speaker ahead of the crucial floor test of the Digambar Kamat Government on July 30 following the political crisis, will now be MLAs without voting rights as per Speaker’s revocation order. The Opposition had objected to the order of the Speaker and the two MLAs have challenged the order in the Supreme Court where the verdict has been reserved. The next hearing of disqualification petitions against the MLAs will be on Monday. In the political developments, which threatened the stability of the Congress-led Kamat Government in the last week of July, Mr. Ramkrishna Dhavlikar lost his Ministerial berth as he along with his brother withdrew support to the Government to make a common cause with the BJP-led Opposition alliance. The alliance, however, proved to be short lived as its constituents deserted it. The MGP was the latest to withdraw from the Opposition alliance on Wednesday. The two major constituents, Save Goa Front and United Goans Democratic Party, were the first to desert the BJP-led alliance.
