Free TV sets, gas stoves distributed in Sattur



Perks: The Health Minister, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, handing over a free colour TV set to a beneficiary at Aruppukottai on Thursday.

ARUPPUKOTTAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is taking efforts to make the people of Tamil Nadu develop in all spheres, Health Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran has said.

Distributing free colour television sets and gas stoves to the beneficiaries of Sattur taluk here on Thursday, Mr. Ramachandran said that the Government had been fulfilling all its poll promises, including distribution of two acre land, which many parties had said would not be possible. The present Government had mitigated the water problem of the district, he added.

The District Collector, V. Chandrasekaran, said that out of 52,505 colour television sets received, the district administration had distributed 45,597. A total of 1,523 sets were distributed to the beneficiaries of Ammapatti, Othayal and Chinna Kollampatti villages on Thursday.

Hundred families were given free gas stoves with one LPG cylinder. The Government spent Rs.950 towards the safety deposit for a cylinder and Rs.940 on each gas stove. So far, 7,666 families had got the benefit. Over 1,400 gas stoves would be distributed till October, he added. The Collector said that free house site pattas for 9,600 families would be given in the district and 1,920 beneficiaries would get the pattas at a function to be held on September 17.

The District Revenue Officer, S. Malarvizhi, welcomed the gathering.

The Revenue Divisional Officer, R. Sivasubramanian (Aruppukottai), the Special Deputy Collector (Free CTV Scheme), S. Kasirajan, the District Panchayat president, A. Kadarkairaj, the Aruppukottai Municipal Chairman, S. Sivaprakasam, and the Aruppukottai Panchayat Union Chairman, K.K.S.S.V.D. Subbaraj, were among those who were present.
