Any delay in the matter will hinder development of Delhi and cause acrimony: Harsh Vardhan “If the sealing drive is resumed, lakhs of people will lose their employment.”
NEW DELHI: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar here on Thursday to pressurise the Government to regularise the unauthorised colonies in the Capital. “It is the need of the hour to regularise these colonies,” said Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan, adding, “Any delay in the matter will hinder the development of Delhi and cause acrimony in the public. The Congress should not indulge in politicking and take prompt action so that the 40 lakh residents are not displaced.” BJP national secretary Vijay Goel also demanded that the Central Government take necessary legal and Constitutional measures in time before resumption of the sealing drive. “If the sealing drive is resumed, lakhs of people will lose their employment.” The dharna saw a substantial turnout of BJP leaders and councillors. The Leader of the House in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Subhash Arya, said: “We will try our best not to resume the sealing drive. But it is up to the Government to initiate the regularisation in time.” MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta was also present on the occasion. “People who come to Delhi seeking employment also play an important part in its development. These people should not be treated in this callus manner. The BJP will not rest till justice has been meted out to these people,” he said. Delhi Assembly Opposition Leader Jagdish Mukhi said: “If CM Sheila Dikshit had shown a little humanity and regularised the colonies as promised, then this problem would not have arisen.”
