Tuticorin: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) conducted a leadership development programme for the heads of farmers’ clubs in the district, here on Thursday.
R. Bharat Kumar, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, explained the participants the techniques that needed to be followed by them. It is aimed at motivating the members of the respective farmers’ clubs to adopt latest farming practices, which would help them to augment agricultural production from their region.
The transmission of technological advancements in agriculture to the fields would help the farmers to give value addition to their produce, which was essential to sustain four per cent growth envisaged in the agriculture sector under the National Agricultural Policy.
The members should be galvanised to help bankers during their preparation of village plans.
He urged the clubs to act as a forum to bring the rural banker and farmers closer and to publicise the principles of development through credit.
“To achieve this objective, the club members should develop cordial relationship with the bankers and Government officials,” he said.
K.C. Durai, a resource person representing an NGO, spoke on the characteristics of a good leader.
