DINDIGUL: All the 343 fertilizer shops in the district should be checked immediately by the agriculture officers whether they displayed the price list and sell quality products to farmers as per the prescribed price, ordered the Collector, R. Vasuki
Reacting sharply to a series of complaints about the sale of poor quality fertilisers at higher price at Chatrapatti during the farmers’ grievances day meeting held here on Thursday, she cautioned that stern action would be initiated against those selling fertilisers at a higher cost and did not display the price list.
If there were any complaints in this connection, farmers could call 2432600 (0451) and pass information for immediate action, she added.
Representatives of farmers stated that the yield of maize at Oddanchatram was very low owing to the supply of poor quality seeds. They also appealed to set up a maize seeds sales outlet to ensure quality.
Ms. Vasuki directed agriculture officials to inspect the maize farms at Oddanchatram and find out the reasons for the slump in the yield and the quality of seeds supplied to them. “The report must be submitted with two days.”
Block-level training in good agriculture practices would be imparted to maize growers shortly as the Government has sanctioned Rs.15000 to each block. A demonstration would also be made on advanced paddy cultivation. A special meeting between farmers and bankers would also be convened soon to streamline distribution of crop loan to all eligible farmers. A total of 2,000 tanks would be desilted in a phased manner.
