23 killed in Uttarakhand road mishaps

DEHRA DUN: Twenty-three persons were killed and several injured in different mishaps in Uttarakhand over the past 24 hours.

Eight persons were killed and 20 injured when a huge boulder fell over a mini bus going from Karnaprayag to Gopeshwar in Chamoli district around 9 a.m. on Thursday. The injured were admitted to the Base Hospital at Gopeshwar, the State Disaster Management and Mitigation Centre here said.

Two persons were killed and three injured when a car going from Haldwani to Pithoragarh met with an accident at Makdau. The injured were admitted to the Base Hospital at Almora.

Nine persons were killed and five injured when a jeep rolled down a deep khud at Kanarichina on Wednesday. Two women were carried away by swift currents in the canal on Rishikesh-Chilla road and two boys met a similar fate in the Roorkee area.

Chief Minister B.C. Khanduri has ordered release of ex-gratia for the next of kin of those killed.
