Good response to Prathibha Karanji competition

MANGALORE: The first-leg of the inter-school cultural competition “Prathiba Karanji” at the cluster-level began here in seven schools in three clusters.

The venues of the competitions were so chosen that no child had to travel more than 5 km to arrive at the competition site.

According to the official estimation, nearly 10,000 students participated in the various events in Mangalore taluk.

In Mangalore city, the attendance was big for all the three clusters on Thursday.

According to sources in the Education Department, children from over 350 schools in Mangalore taluk participated in their respective clusters in 14 categories, which included classical and folk dances, short skits on socially relevant themes, debating, elocution and fancy dress.

The city was divided into three clusters, Kavoor, Gandhinagar and Mahakali Padpu, and each cluster was further divided into groups of schools and each school had categories under age-group based on classes first to fifth standards, sixth to seventh standards and eighth to 10th standards.

Individual children and groups who have secured first and second places in their respective clusters will go to the block-level competitions and those who qualify there will go to district-level and further to the State-level competitions.

The block-level competitions will be held on October 1, 2007.
