In our country, we leave aside the big fish involved in white-collar crimes and go after small fry. The people who made up the frenzied mob and thrashed Salim should also be identified and brought to book. K. Pradeep, Chennai For perpetrating such a horrible act, in utter disregard for the dignity of human life, the policeman deserves summary dismissal. He should be tried for violating human rights. When the rich and powerful criminals, anti-nationals, and bootleggers are roaming our streets freely, thanks to our legal loopholes, does a petty thief deserve such barbaric treatment? S. That those who commit petty crimes are punished severely while those who swindle crores of people’s money are given police protection is indeed ironic.
